Not To Be Trusted With Knives

{September 12, 2008}   Update on Amor

My friend JB generously offered to let me post this picture in my blog posting on Amor de Cosmos, second Premier of British Columbia.  Due to its sheer awesomeness, I figured that it deserves it’s own blog posting:

The Parliament Building Players, The Parliament Buildings, Victoria, BC, Summer 1998. Back: Francis Rattenbury, Nellie Cashman, Amor de Cosmos, Queen Victoria, James Douglas Front: Hamish McKinnon. All rights reserved.

Apparently kids were hired to play historical figures to entertain tourists at the Parliament Buildings in Victoria.

Amor is the guy in the middle with the top hat.  My friend is the one in the front.  The chick with the crown is the Queen, but I have no idea who these other characters are!

{September 12, 2008}   $40 “plus other fees” WTF?

Saw this at a bus stop the other day:

Let’s take a closer look:

Doesn’t the “plus other fees” make the “$40” kind of meaningless?  Why don’t they just say “$1 plus other fees”? That would be just as meaningful.  How much are these other fees?  For what are you paying these other fees?  My guess is they mean at least that $6.95 “system access fee” they always charge, but isn’t it rather ridiculous to say you are getting a certain number of minutes, browsing & incoming (but apparently not outgoing) text messaging for $40, when obviously you can’t use those features without “accessing the system.”
